About Tormod
Skiing-expeditions and the real steeps, aka extreme-skiing, is coming back as the new trend in the world of skiing. Tormod Granheim is among the leading Scandinavians in the field. He is a well-known player in Scandinavian magazines as well as newspapers and TV, with his strong psyche, razor-sharp edges and need for adventure.
September 2004 Tormod singlepushed solo to the summit of Cho Oyo from camp 1 at 6400 meters in a 13 hour effort. He next made the first norwegian descent off a 8000-metre peak. He choose to go far skiers left negotiating the rockbands via some chutes. This permitted him a cordless descent keeping the skies on all the way back.
Based in Chamonix, he has taken skiing to a new level, and skied a number of the classic test-pieces, including a cordless, solo descent of the notorious Eugster Diagonal on the North Face of Aiguille du Midi (1200m @ 50-55 degrees, second ever cordless).
January 2002 he reached the summit of Aconcagua (6962m) and skied the Polish Glacier. The 2003 summer he climbed and skied the two Chinese summits Muztagh Ata, and Kuksay Peak in a period of about a week. The first being more than 7500m, and the latter some 7200m. Kuksay was soloed in a roundtrip of less than 30 hours involving a bivy and some 3000 meters of vertical gain.
